AEPP Notification Deadline - Extended
Friday, February 17, 2012
NOTE: Deadline extended to February 17, 2012 as ODA has not yet set an application time period for 2012.
The District continues to assist land owners with land preservation efforts, including the Ohio Department of Agriculture’s Easement Purchase Program (AEPP): http://www.agri.ohio.gov/farmland/ The deadline for landowners to notify the District of their intent to apply for AEPP is EXTENDED to Wednesday, February 17, 2012. Minimum application requirements include enrollment in Current Agricultural Use Valuation (CAUV) program and an Agricultural District.
As a Local Sponsor, the District submits AEPP applications on behalf of farm owners, assists with the easement closing process, monitors existing easements and provides general information on conservation options.
Since 2009, the District has submitted 20 applications totaling 3,025 acres. Eight have been selected, and when all are conveyed, 1,515 acres will be protected from development and will bring $1.5 million to the Licking County economy. Easement purchase offers are usually between $1,000 and $1,500 per acre and limited to $2,000 per acre.
A conservation or agricultural easement is a legally binding agreement to limit development of the land in perpetuity. The landowner retains ownership of the land and the right to control access to it.
