FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
CONSERVATION DISTRICT SEEKS BOARD CANDIDATES
The Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District’s Nominating Committee is seeking interested and qualified candidates for this year’s Board of Supervisors election. The election will be held on September 25, 2011 during the District’s 67th Annual Meeting and Open House.
Licking County SWCD is a political subdivision of the state that is governed by a five-member board elected by Licking County residents and landowners. Its mission is to promote conservation of natural resources through local leadership, education and assistance.
Board member duties include identifying and prioritizing Licking County’s soil, water and related natural resource needs, seeking resources to address those needs, coordinating with local, state and federal conservation partners to deliver conservation programs and overseeing District staff.
Board members meet monthly to conduct District business and participate in planning meetings, conservation tours, field days and area, state and national meetings as time and resources permit. Board members are not paid, but may receive reimbursement for expenses related to attending meetings and other activities.
Elected Board Members serve a three-year term as a public official. To be considered for the ballot, potential candidates must submit applications to the Nominating Committee by August 11, 2011, or submit a Candidate Self-Nomination Petition by August 21, 2011. John Trujillo, Nominating Committee Chairman, encourages interested individuals to contact him at 740-334-0575 or Jim Kiracofe, District Program Administrator, at 740-670-5330.
