Newark-- Licking County Soil & Water Conservation District will co-host conservation-related educational programs at the Natural Resources Area of the Hartford Fair, August 7-13.  The area is located in T. J. Evans Park, north of the horse barns at the Hartford Fairgrounds, 14028 Fairgrounds Road, Croton, OH.

Presentations will include identifying insects and sounds, understanding algal blooms and water quality, identifying wildflowers and collecting seed, identifying and attracting birds, and cooking with edible plants and wild game. A complete schedule of events is available at www.lickingswcd.com/calendar

On Wednesday, Wild Ohio, the Ohio Division of Wildlife television program, will film a segment on cooking Ohio wild game.

“The Natural Resources Area is a great outdoor setting where the District and partners can promote conservation and answer natural resources-related questions” said Jim Kiracofe, District Program Administrator.  “The area includes a one-acre stocked pond, wetland, pump-fed stream, rain garden, native plant display gardens, shaded areas with benches and a relaxing atmosphere.”

Created in 2006, the four-acre site is managed by an Advisory Committee whose members include the District, Licking County Recycling & Litter Prevention, Ohio Certified Volunteer Naturalists and Hartford Independent Fair Board.

In addition, the District is partnering with the Licking Land Trust (www.lickinglandtrust.org) and will have an updated Licking County preserved land and open space map at the Trust booth in the Commerce building.
