Boating Safety Grant Secured

December 20, 2011

Licking SWCD has received a grant to provide boating safety education classes.   The grant includes eight canoes and eight kayaks which will also be used for the Licking River Roundup and other education events.  The grant is made possible through the Ohio Division of Watercraft and will help promote its boating safety education priorities.  The District will receive $19,800 over two years.

The District is seeking volunteers who are willing to be trained to become certified paddling instructors and help teach classes.  The first public boating safety classes will be held during the Harford Fair, August 5-11, 2012 and in early September, prior to the 2012 Licking River Roundup.

Local organizations that would like to borrow the canoes and kayaks for use in Licking County will be required to have an individual certified as a paddling instructor.   Interested individuals and organizations should contact District Administrator, Jim Kiracofe, 740-670-5330, for more details.
