District to Offer Water Conservation Classes
December 22, 2011
The District recently received a grant to conduct water conservation classes. The goal is to increase awareness about water conservation and best management practices that improve water quality. Clean water improves quality of life throughout Licking County and is critical for drinking water, recreation, food production and a healthy environment.
Classes will focus on water quality, watersheds and impacts of stormwater runoff on flooding. The classes will also recommend ways that home owners, businesses and local communities can reduce storm water runoff and improve water quality. Class participants will be able to purchase a District-constructed rain barrel or build their own at a discounted price.
Many residents are aware of ways to conserve water and protect water quality. Others, perhaps, did not learn about water conservation from their parents or school or never developed an appreciation for protecting water resources.
The District will partner with The Dawes Arboretum, the Village of Hebron, CTEC (Career and Technology Center) and others to hold classes around the county. Organizations interested in hosting a class are encouraged to contact the District at 740-670-5330.
The grant was made possible thought the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District Partnership with Ohio Division of Soil & Water Resources. The District will be reimbursed for up to $18,000 over two years for holding classes and offering discounted rain barrels.
Class dates, times, locations and registration information will be posted on the District web site: www.lickingswcd.com
